About this event
The Hannaford Street Silver Band concludes its 2026-27 season with April in Brass, a spectacular afternoon celebrating brass virtuosity, new Canadian music, and the remarkable versatility of the brass ensemble. Taking centre stage is Catherine Turner, solo hornist with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, performing Richard Strauss's magnificent Horn Concerto No. 1. Written in 1882-83 when Strauss was still a teenager, the concerto has become one of the defining works of the horn repertoire. Its soaring melodies, brilliant fanfares, lyrical passages, and demanding virtuosity make it an ideal showcase for the extraordinary colours and expressive possibilities of the horn. Turner brings her experience as a leading orchestral horn player to this exciting collaboration with Hannaford, creating an opportunity to hear one of the great works of the horn repertoire in a distinctive brass-band setting.
